The Hengel Club Universiteit (HCU) has been a sub-association of the SPR since the SPR was founded in 1950. The HCU has also been affiliated with Sportvisserij Nederland (formerly NVVS), the national association for sport fishing, for more than 56 years. The association organizes 5 competitions in the summer in the form of a summer competition. These competitions take place on the first Saturday of the months of May, July, August, September and October. These competitions are usually held in the province Friesland. In the winter months there is a winter competition (ijs en weder diende). These take place on the first Saturday of November, December, January, February and March. There is also an SPR competition. Every SPR member/employee RUG and Hanze can participate in this competition. This competition is held on a weekday in April. In June there is a free competition, which is held in the province of Groningen. This is a non-competitive competition. Then there are the summer evening games. From about half May 7 competitions will be held within a radius of 20 km around town. These matches are always on a Wednesday evening from 5.30 pm to 10 pm.
