Introduction...
My name is Joeke Buikema, 43 years old, and I have been working at the sports center for about 15 years. Here, I teach tennis and padel, and since last year, I’ve also been the head of the department. After growing up in Het Hogeland, in the beautiful village of Baflo, I went to study in Groningen. I chose the Academy of Physical Education (ALO) because I always wanted to do something in sports. Since then, I’ve never left Groningen and now live with Hilde and our two kids in Helpman.
In the past, I was an avid tennis player (national level), and now I try to pass on my passion for sports to students and employees. About five years ago, a wonderful new sport was added to my repertoire: padel. This is no longer a fad or trend but a sport that’s here to stay. Responding to requests from SPR members, we now offer a 10-week course. In this course, all strokes will be covered at least once: service, volley, bandeja, vibora, bajada, and chiquita. I hope everyone can master the basics of padel and enjoy playing a match. Hopefully, I’ll see you on the court soon!
